Authorities foil Resistance leadership sit-in protest

Srinagar, March 13: In a bid to foil Resistance leadership sponsored protest against the ‘plight of pro-freedom prisoners in jails,’ Mehbooba Mufti led state government placed many resistance leaders under house arrest while restrictions were imposed in Maisuma area of Srinagar city, housing the headquarters of Muhammad Yasin Malik led Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front.

Pertinently, Resistance leadership including Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik had called for a sit-in to highlight the plight of prisoners in different jails of the state of Jammu and Kashmir. Senior resistance leaders including Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Muhammad Yasin Malik and Asiya Andrabi were placed under preventive detention. The spokesperson of Hurriyat (M) Shahid-ul-Islam has also been put under house arrest. While Mirwaiz Umar, Asiya Andrabi and Shahid-ul-Islam were placed under house arrest, Malik and War have been shifted to Central Jail and Kothibagh police station.

Spokesperson People’s Political Party condemned the arrest of Hilal Ahmed Var in strong words saying it amounted to State oppression and a denial of right to expression. “This highhandedness of the State shows the times we are living in. If one is not even allowed to demonstrate peacefully, it leaves a big void for violent demonstrations,” he said. (CNS)
