BWJA extends support to KEG

Demands swift action against erring cop

Baramulla, Mar 19: In an extraordinary meeting, Baramulla Working Journalist Association on Sunday decided to extend its support to Kashmir Editors Guild’s protest call against unwarranted police action against news photographers.
BWJA condemned the attack on freedom of press and demanded swift action against the erring cop who assaulted noted photojournalist Tawseef Mustafa while discharging his professional duties.
Ironically police have not even registered an FIR, for which the photographers have already moved an application.
BWJA also decided to boycott 11th North Kashmir Sports Festival in which Police Chief is chief guest.
“We want to send a clear and loud message that media fraternity working in conflict is one and can’t comprise in professional grounds that too when lives of journalists are under threat,” said spokesman BWJA.
Besides, President BWJA President Gulzar Ahmed Zargar and Patron Karamat Qayoom expressed solidarity with photojournalists and also discussed various issues confronting journalists in north Kashmir. (KNS)
