Bypolls: Nomination papers of ‘Dead’ Shiv Sena man rejected

Srinagar, March 22: A Shiv Sena activist Wednesday claimed that electoral staff rejected his nomination papers from the Srinagar Lok Sabha seat stating that voter list record shows him ‘Dead’.

“My name figures at serial number 490 in voter list from Chadoora block. I am alive and yet they are showing me dead. This is irony and was depressing for me,” Abdul Khaliq Bhat, a Shiv Sena activist and a resident of Doyen Chadoora who wanted to file nomination papers told CNS.

He said that he had completed all the formalities. “It was shocking that I have been declared as dead. Either the authorities don’t want interested candidates to contest elections or they have created a defective voter list,” Bhat said.

When contacted an Electoral officer said that there was a confusion as the name of the Khaliq Bhat also figures in the list of dead voters that has been prepared by the office of the electoral registration. (CNS)
