Srinagar, March 23, CNS: Demanding a blanket ban on the sale and trade of liquor in Jammu and Kashmir, Janta Dal United Thursday staged a protest here in Press Enclave Srinagar. The protesters carrying banners and placards seeking alcohol free society were led by JDU State president GM Shaheen.
While to media persons, Shaheen said that liquor has been banned in various states including Kerala, Bihar and Gujarat “why state government of J&K is hesitating to ban it here.”
He said that if Nitesh Kumar government in Bihar can do it, why it can be difficult for the Jammu Kashmir Government. “The state of J&K is generating revenue of Rs 500 crore from the liquor while Bihar was generating Rs 6000 crore revenue from it. Still, the Bihar showed courage and banned it,” Sheen told CNS adding that liquor consumption is the main source of crime in the society. (CNS)
