Kupwara, Apr 22: In a bid to enhance the flow of water for irrigation, the authorities in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district have launched a drive against encroachments on the embankments of the rivers and streams.
In connection with the drive against encroachments, the enforcement team headed by Tehsildar Drugmulla Ghulam-u-din Dar along with Naib Tehsildar concerned freed more than seventeen Kanals of Kahchraie land from encroachment at Bumhama near DC residence of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
According to KNS correspondent, Wasim Majnoon Mir, the Drugmulla Tehsildar said hundreds of trees, mostly Russian trees had been cut down and encroachments were removed in Bumhama near DC residence.
“Following the directions of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court, encroachments are being removed from streams and Nallahs. “In this drive, hundreds of trees were cut down,” said Ghulam-u-din Dar, Tehsildar Drugmulla.
“I appeal people to remove the encroachments themselves. At some places, people cooperated with us during the drive while at a few other places, we sought the help of the police to remove encroachments,” he added.
He appreciated his staff for their dedication in making eviction drives successful. (KNS)
