As Election Commission of India (ECI) announced deferment of the by-election for Anantnag constituency to May 25, reliable sources revealed that the state government has taken exception to the decision.

Sources said that the state government responded to ECI late night, stating that either the elections should be postponed indefinitely or they should be held as per schedule on April 12.
“While the situation will take lot of time to improve, the state government will also have to face model code of conduct for longer time which will hamper developmental activities,” a top official said justifying the government response to ECI.
Chief Secretary could not be contacted for official confirmation about the development despite repeated attempts.
