Appeals members of Media fraternity to participate for the larger interest
Srinagar, April 28: The Jammu and Kashmir Young Journalist Association (JKYJA) Friday held an extra ordinary meeting at its Central office Lal Chowk Srinagar in which all the members of Association participated. The meeting termed clampdown of internet services in valley as extremely ironical on part of ruling dispensation. The JKYJA decided to hold peaceful protest at Press Colony Srinagar on 02 May 2017 at 11.00am and appealed members of media fraternity to join the protests. The participants said this government’s move which is hitting the journalist community also amounts direct attack on bread and butter of many.
As per the spokesman, the JKYJA in a bid to impress upon government to restore the Internet services in Kashmir appealed the media associations of the state including Jammu and Kashmir Press Association, Kashmir Editors Guild, Jammu Kashmir Editors Association, Journalists working with News Portals and News Agencies, Freelance Journalists, Kashmir Printers Association, Kashmir Journalist Corps, Kashmir Press Photographers Association, Kashmir Correspondents’ Club, Kashmir Video Journalist Association and other districts level associations participate in protest for the larger interest of Freedom of Press in Kashmir.
Considering adverse impact on the economic prospects due to the Internet Ban the JKYJA also appealed people from IT section, Tourism, Lawyers, Traders, Entrepreneurs and Teachers also make presence in the protest.
The participants observed that besides communication gag and now blocking of Social Media will prove disastrous as online world is source of earning for many spheres of life in present age of technology. If the decision is not revoked JKYJA in collaboration with likeminded organizations will hit the streets soon.
The spokesman said that JKYJA is hopeful that this protest will end the gag forced on the fourth estate in Jammu and Kashmir and will bring a permanent solution to such frequent gags.
