Urges CM to undo all such arbitrary adjustments

Jammu, Apr 21: The KAS Officers Association has called for restoring the poise and authority of the service and doing away with the practice of observing the eligibility criteria in breach for postings at senior positions in the administration.
“The State Government has been found observing the eligibility criteria in breach for posting at senior positions in administration sending a discouraging signal amongst the KAS officers,” said a statement issued by the Spokesman of the KAS Association here today.
Elaborating on such controversial postings, the statement said that an Engineer has been holding the post of Vice-Chairman, Srinagar Development Authority (SDA) with Additional Charge of VC LAWDA for quite some time, “giving a notion that no suitable choice is available amongst more than 500 senior officers in the KAS cadre for the said posts.”
“Subsequently one Medical Officer was posted as Commissioner, Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC),” it said adding that the matter was agitated before the Government as senior members of KAS Association met the Chief Minister personally, who assured that these temporary arrangements will be done away with and replaced by suitable officers from KAS cadre within one month.
The statement said that ironically, instead of recalling these officers, the Government went ahead with fresh posting of some more non-cadre officers on senior positions including Managing Director SRTC, Project Director RMSA, Additional Director, State Rural Livelihood Mission Kashmir and Joint Commissioner SMC, thereby undermining the importance and competence of the officers of the KAS fraternity.
The Association has urged the Chief Minister to look into the matter, as assured by her, and undo all such arbitrary postings immediately, “otherwise the Association shall be forced to adopt other legitimate ways and means, if the Government does not concede to the merit based demand of the KAS officers.” (KNS)
