Srinagar, April 3: With the occupation of foothpaths and erection of stalls on roads by vendors, the traffic situation in Srinagar city has been worsening every passing day while on Monday a beeline of vehicles was stranded at HMT Qamarwari as a result commuters faced a lot of inconvenience.
“HMT-Qamarwari road and Bemina route remained worst affected due to traffic pressure,” Eyewitnesses told CNS.
Several small roads within the city were also choked due to massive traffic inflow. According the locals, the traffic Jam was caused due to the poor roads and haphazard parking of vehicles on the roads. They also said that some shopkeepers have occupied a major portion of road, while authorities neither vacate vendors nor take any action against the selfish shopkeepers.
“The de-occupation of roads and footpaths from vendors is the job of Srinagar Municipal Corporation. Our job is to ensure smooth flow of traffic which is possible only when roads are clear and motorable,” said an official from Traffic department. (CNS)
