Islamabad/Anantnag 21 April: Today the chairman of Ummat e Islami and Mirwaiz of Southern Kashmir, Qazi Ahmed Yasir lead a huge pro Freedom demonstration at Khudwani area of Kulgam district in Southern Kashmir. Hundreds of people participated in the rally and denounced the state barbarism against civilian population in Kashmir.
Addressing the demonstration, Mirwaiz Yasir said the state crackdown against students is a grave human rights violation and only the most brutal regimes throughout the world history have unleashed terror against students. Mirwaiz Qazi Yasir said that on one side India brags and boasts of “Save Girl Child” and on the other it beats Iqra to pulp. “The state should learn to accommodate contrasting opinions and dissent, otherwise as I always say the situation will further drift into anarchy” Mirwaiz Qazi Yasir said. He also stressed on the immediate need for political reforms and politics to overtake power. The constant failures of the political system since 1947 have created strong undercurrents which are taking a practical shape on the ground. He also accused the local government of primarily focusing all its energy on the smooth tenure for 6 years. “The Local Political parties need to grow beyond self interest” Mirwaiz Qazi Yasir said.
Mirwaiz Qazi Yasir said people have lost all their faith in the alleged democratic system and its institutions. “The legal system has failed terribly to deliver and lost its credibility, people like Sarjan Barkati, Sajjad Hashmi and others continue to remain incarcerated despite court orders to release them” Mirwaiz Yasir said. The Indian state should rethink its strategies of “Crushing Kashmiris by might” and immediately try some confidence building measures and initiate a full fledged political process and dialogue with all sections of the society including students, Local Imams, the leadership of Kashmir and Lawyers. He appealed the international human rights watchdogs to intervene in the grave human rights violation unleashed against Kashmiri people by paramilitary troopers.
Mirwaiz Qazi Yasir said that as a society it is our responsibility to take care of all those who have suffered in the conflict, especially those who are languishing in the jails. “May be we do not have money, but we should at the least visit their houses” Mirwaiz Qazi Yasir said. He demanded the release of political prisoners including Ghulam Qadir bhat, Mehmood Topiwal, Sarjan Barkati, Sajad Hashmi, Masarat Alam, Mushtaq ul Islam, Fayaz Ahmed Talaq, Peer Mohammed Ashraf, Shafi Sariyati and others.
Later a meeting of Ummat e Islami political wing was held in which special prayers were held for Iqra and Bisma who were injured during the recent police action against demonstrators.
