Mirwaiz reiterates poll boycott
Barred from offering fifth consecutive Friday prayers

Srinagar, Apr 07: Appealing people from across Kashmir to boycott the upcoming sham elections in Kashmir, Hurriyat Conference (M) Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq said that any elections under Indian dispensation are deceptive as they are sold by GOI to the world as an expression of peoples will regarding their future dispensation, when the reality is that for the past 70 years people of Kashmir are engaged in a struggle for achieving their Right to decide their political future through self determination as guaranteed by the UN.
Hurriyat (M) Chairman, who continues to remain under house arrest, was barred by the autocratic authorities for the fifth consecutive Friday from offering prayers and deliver Friday sermon at Historic Jamia Masjid Srinagar. However, Mirwaiz addressed the Friday congregation at Jamia Masjid through telephone and asserted that suppression detention tyranny, and torture of the people and leadership cannot stifle their voice calling for the freedom of Kashmir.
Asserting that the state in its paranoia and insecurity of people’s support to the struggle had curbed the movement of the resistance leadership by placing them under house arrest or lodging them in jails besides conducting large scale crackdown against youth across Kashmir in a bid to conduct the facade of elections, Mirwaiz appealed to people to desist from participating in this mockery of a democratic exercise, in a dictatorial set up.
Mirwaiz said that as per the joint resistance programme people should observe a protest strike from the evening of April 8 till the evening of April 09 to show complete resolve and commitment with the freedom struggle.
Mirwaiz said as workers of AAC and activists of Dar-ul-Khair have been arrested for the conduct of the election drama it adversely affected the relief and rescue efforts of Dar-ul-khair in the present flood like situation in Kashmir.
On the occasion, Mirwaiz also read out the resolution drafted by the Joint Resistance Leadership which called upon the people to show complete commitment towards the resistance movement, express Steadfastness towards the goal of the struggle nurtured by the huge sacrifices of the people especially the youth and to stay away from the sham elections.
Meanwhile APHC spokesman has denounced the continuous house arrest of APHC Chairman Dr Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and arrest and house arrest of Syed Ali Geelani, Mohamamd Yaseen Malik, Advocate Shahid- ul Islam, and activists Farooq Ahmad Saudagar, Abdul Rashid Tanki and others across the valley. He said the arrest and house arrest of resistance leadership and youth was not going to weaken their resolve towards freedom struggle.
Later after the conclusion of Friday prayers, the spokesman said Hurriyat workers and activists took out a rally outside historic Jamia Masjid Srinagar. He said the protesters denounced the House arrest of Mirwaiz and other leaders of resistance leadership. They also condemned the arrest of youth from across Kashmir. (KNS)
