Srinagar, Apr 05: Asserting that Srinagar was the economic and heritage nerve centre of Jammu and Kashmir, Peoples Democratic Party today accused National Conference of exploiting the city and its residents for its own political interests.
“NC and its leadership have only exploited Srinagar for its political interests. Dr Farooq Abdullah and his son Omar Abdullah used Srinagar as a stepping stone to pursue their political carrier and even got ministerial berths in New Delhi after being elected from this parliamentary constituency. Let them explain what they have contributed”.
This was stated by MLC and District President Srinagar Khursheed Alam, Member Parliament Fayaz Ahmed Mir, MLA Yawar Dillawar Mir and MLC Firdous Tak during series of election meetings they addressed in Habakadal assembly segment here today. The meetings were organised by Mudassir Amin.
The legislators said that National Conference and Congress were together responsible for the economic and development morass the state in general and Srinagar city in particular was facing.
“The party leadership has failed to provide even basic amenities to the people, while the claims of development remained confined to papers during their rule. The money earmarked for works went into the pockets of NC leaders, their relatives and agents”, they alleged.
They said the decades old rule of NC had rendered Srinagar without a democratic voice and whereas rest of the State had achieved the democratic option of choosing their representatives, the boycott politics was promoted by the ruling party to benefit from.
They said that in short span and despite unrest the present dispensation headed by Chief Minister Ms Mehbooba Mufti has taken various historical initiatives across Srinagar. “The people are feeling the change on the ground. The party has given mandate to Nazir Ahmed Khan, a person with clean image and determination to serve the masses. We are sure that people will repose faith on the PDP leadership and ensure his success”, the said.
They said that the former Member Parliament representing the constituency has sided with the same persons he had sought votes against. “Tariq Hameed Karra is on record to have said that the paper claims for development of Srinagar city by National Conference. He has been tell people that they are being considered as fools by NC workers and today he is seeking votes for the very same persons”, they said.
Number of people associated with Congress and National Conference joined Peoples Democratic Party on the occasion and assured that they will reach out to the people to spread message and programmes of the party. (KNS)
