“Kashmiris used as human shields, shot dead as targets – exposes hollow democracy”

Islamabad, April 14: The Chairman of Ummat e Islami and Mirwaiz South Kashmir, Qazi Ahmed Yasir, on Friday said that Indian army using Kashmiris as human shield or shooting to kill to target young boys exposes that people of Kashmir continue to be treated brutally – making claims of democracy look hollow.

Mirwaiz Qazi Yasir was addressing people after Friday prayers in Pulwama district of South Kashmir, where he also said that the NHRC or SHRC are only for the sake of name, they should have taken suo motto cognizance of this grave human rights violation that has clear proof in videos and pictures.

“On one side claims of democracy are being made and on other side Kashmiris are being treated like animals. From the three civilian killings in Chadoora to eight killings during elections, only blood of Kashmiris is being spilled in Kashmir. We condemn such use of force and want government to change its policies towards Kashmir dispute,” he said.

Taking a dig at the recent Lok Sabha by-polls, he said that for 7 percent voting if you need to kill eight innocent Kashmiris it should be enough to understand ground situation. “Conducting elections with such huge number of government forces and then killing 8 innocent people in just a few hours only shows what is India’s position in Kashmir. People are coming out to protest and then there is violence – all this is only due to lack of political outreach. Kashmir is a political issue and can’t be addressed through the barrel of gun. Now a person with a mandate of less than 7 percent will claim to represent Kashmir in Indian parliament, he should be ashamed of himself,” Mirwaiz Yasir said.

He also said that NC candidate Dr. Farooq Abdullah is changing his stance like seasons. “One day Farooq Abdullah says stone throwing is for resolution of Kashmir and another day he says stone throwers are paid by government. It will not be surprising to see him becoming more Indian than even Yogi Adityanath if he enters parliament.”
