Police getting tough on rumor mongers

‘Asks youth to stay away from indulging into such social media groups’

Ganderbal | Apr 04 (PTK): The Jammu & Kashmir Police, Ganderbal in its special investigation against rumour mongers active on social media, have listed and identified more than 20 groups.

These groups, according to official sources are circulating fake news alerts as to provoke innocent youths for violence.


Giving examples of some WhatsApp groups like “Stone pelters group, Rebels of Wakura, Manigam Sangbaz Group” etc, the official sources said that police is keenly monitoring all the social media platforms across the valley and those who are misusing technology to create law and order issues will not spare.

Officials said that police have already initiated action against such anti-social elements and some youths have also been arrested so far in Pantha Chowk, Chanpora and Zakura police jurisdictions.

Special technical cyber cell headed by Dy SP (Ops), Ganderbal, Dr Rayees Mir under the supervision of SSP Ganderbal have traced as many as 20 groups using WhatsApp platform to provoke youths for stone pelting and to create fuss by circulating false news reports. Strict action is being taken against the administrators of such groups and people especially youths have been asked to quit such group at the earliest.

Sources said, the police cyber cell technos are using highly sophisticated technology to monitor and reach to the locations of all the people using internet. This suggests that anything suspicious will make cyber cell to act swift and accurate.

SSP Ganderbal has appealed youth not to indulge in any anti-social media group and those operating as administrators of social media groups on WhatsApp, Facebook, Hike and other platforms are advised to stop posting any news or related items if they’re not authorized by the law.

SSP has warned people using unauthorized news groups for dire consequences and has advised such administrators to close and discontinue at the earliest. (PTK)
