Srinagar, April 28: Police on Friday arrested a non-local boot polisher from Rajhstan and recovered 2.5 kilogram charas from him.
After receiving inputs that majority of the non-locals who does menial jobs across Kashmir have been acting as the agents of drug smugglers, a police party from Magam police station in Central Kashmir’s Budgam district followed a boot polisher from Rajhstan and recovered charas from him.
Station House Officer Police Station Magam Mr Aftab Ahmed told news agency CNS that they had received information some drug smugglers in Magam have been using non-locals to fetch charas from Bijbehara area of South Kashmir. “Our party followed the boot polisher Om Prakash Sakshi to Bijbehara. As he was travelling back to Magam in a Sumo (JK01H), we intercepted the vehicle and during search, we found 2.5 kg Charas inside the box of the boot polisher. The Charas was rolled in the corn leaves,” he said. “Besides the boot polisher, we arrested another person namely Ghulam Ahmed Wani son of Ghulam Rasool a resident of Manhamo Magam. The mastermind is still at large,” Mr Aftab said adding that an FIR vide number 45/2017 under section 8/20 and 29 NDPS Act has been registered.
He said drive against drug peddlers will continue. Meanwhile, locals have appreciated the role of police in curbing the drug menace in the area. (CNS)
