Bandipora, May 12: Agitated protesters from Naidkhai Sonawari area of North Kahsmir’s Bandipora district Firday locked up Para-medical staff in a room at New Type Pamiry Health Centre for an hour alleging that continuous absence of doctors in the hospital has been affecting patient care system badly.
The protesters after locking up the Para-medical staff blocked Sopore-Srinagar road for hours forcing civil administration officials to rush to the spot.
Eyewitnesses told CNS that there were scores of patients at the ticket counter waiting for the doctors, till 12 noon no doctor turned up in the hospital. ‘As attendants swell up, they staged protest and chanted anti-medicos slogans. Some of the attendants locked up the Para-medical staff and even closed the main gate of the Health Centre. The protesters hit to road and blocked vehicular movement,” eyewitnesses told CNS.
“This hospital is in shambles. Doctors come and go at will, leaving patients at the mercy of compounders. Lot of patients had arrived here for Ultra Sound check up but there was no doctor forcing people to lock the gate of the hospital,” said a protester.
When contacted to Block Medical Officer Hajin, Dr Tariq Ahmed said the Doctor who is posted there was on night duty while another Doctor lives in Baramulla and due to traffic jam, he arrived late in the hospital. (CNS)
