Srinagar, May 20: All Parties Hurriyat Conference and Awami Action Committee (AAC) today strongly condemned the decision of State authorities for imposing stringent curbs and restrictions in majority of Srinagar areas and turning the entire downtown into a fortress to foil the proposed workers rally at Mirwaiz Manzil in connection with the Hafta-e-Shahadat (Martyrs Week), to commemorate the martyrdom anniversary of Shaheed-e-Milat Mirwaiz Muhammad Farooq and martyrs of Hawal Massacre.
AAC spokesman termed the sealing of entire Shahr-e-Khas and imposition of undeclared curfew as well as the continuous house detention of its chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq as sheer frustration on part of the authorities and said that this was an open admission of Political defeat on part of the govt. The spokesman said delegates from all the districts of Kashmir were supposed to attend a workers rally and pay homage to the martyrs and later assemble at Shaheedi Chowk Hawal but all the areas, lanes, and by lanes were sealed by the police and paramilitary forces with rolls of concertina wires put in place to prevent any gathering.
The spokesman said that time and again people are being caged, for demanding their fundamental political right to self-determination The more the state will persist this attitude and policy the more the people will resist it. No amount of enforced calm imposed by police and military might be called normal and can be a substitute for real peace which can only come by addressing and not denying the dispute in and on Kashmir.
The spokesman also castigated the government for raiding the houses of AAC workers, arresting many including Advocate Yasir Dalal and lodging them in different police stations. The spokesman also condemned the house arrest of advocate Shahid-ul-Islam.
Meanwhile, in memory of Shahdee-e-Milat and martyrs of Kashmir, Quran Khawani and Fathi Khawani were held at various places in Chenab valley in Jammu region as well.
