Srinagar 18 May 2017: Kashmir Journalists and Reporters on Wednesday expressed serious concern at the attack by the forces on journalist Tanveer Wani here in south Kashmir he suffered serious injuries in his left eye due to pellets during performing his professional duties when clashes were going on in Kulgam Degree College.
He was allegedly chased from the scene of a confrontation between student demonstrators and Forces in Kulgam District of South Kashmir.
Tanveer Wani, a local freelance video Journalist, who often contributes to international news agencies and Local agencies was hit by pellets in Kulgam today and was reffered to SMHS Hospital Srinagar for treatment.
Mean While several Media Organizations has expressed concerns over the hazards journalists face in Kashmir and brute act on Tanveer Wani.
A clear signal has to be given from the highest level of the political leadership in the State that this manner of attack on journalists performing their duties will not be tolerated,” said Journalists
Journalists and Reporters condemned and said “By directly attacking journalists covering these clashes, the police are trying to suppress coverage of the events taking place in Kashmir Valley,” it said. “We urge the government to order an immediate halt to this outright persecution of journalists. The authorities must allow journalists to cover demonstrations and must protect them from any violence that could be directed against them.”
