Women participants raise pro-freedom slogans
Srinagar, May 16: Pro-freedom slogans were raised by women participants of a function at SKICC, Srinagar on Tuesday after throwing furniture and bottles towards the dice leaving the chief minister Mehbooba Mufti and organizers surprised.
Sources said that Rural Development Department had organized a function at SKICC and a number of people were invited to attend including women.
“The trouble started very early at the gate of SKICC where women participants objected to enter alleging they had been brought to SKICC deceitfully,” witnesses said.
They said that the organizers somehow managed the situation and brought them in.
Sources said that amidst anger of the women participants as the chief minister appeared in the lawns of SKICC after delivering lecture inside, the angry participants started raising azadi slogans and threw whatever they had including chairs, water bottles and other furniture.
“We had been called for some UMEED function and not told that Mehbooba will be here,” said an angry lady who was among hundreds of women who left the venue raising slogans “Hum Kya Chahtay Azadi”.
The women participants who were in thousands alleged that they were cheated by the R&D Department officials. “We had been told to attend a special training program, but here we were informed that Chief Minister will address them. This is sheer exploitation,” said a woman to CNS.
Reports said that at least 15 women were fainted during the chaos. They were shifted to hospital.
Meanwhile former chief minister Omar Abdullah took to twitter and retweeted a tweet of his party National Conference’s spokesperson Junaid Azim Mattoo.
Mattoo tweeted a video of the protest and wrote, “Women storm out of @Mehbooba Mufti’s event at SKICC and raise Azaadi slogans. Say they were coerced to attend the function. Wake up @JKPDP.”
Omar retweeted the same tweet and wrote, “This is what happens when the machinery of Govt is used for the sole purpose of rebuilding @MehboobaMufti’s non-existing credibility.” (CNS)
