Srinagar, May 04: Expressing serious concern over the losses caused to property during search operations conducted today in District Shopian, Congress leaders Abdul Qayoom Shah and Mushtaq Ahmad Khanday condemned the harassment of common innocent people. They also condemned the Forces for causing severe damages to property both movable and immovable, besides leaving dozens of people injured.
Describing the losses and harassment of civilians as very unfortunate and unacceptable, Congress leaders said that Forces should have exercised restraint while undertaking search operations, but unfortunately severe damages were caused to property of common innocent people in many villages, which is not only unfortunate, but highly condemnable, as the unnecessary harassment and damages will invite strong reaction from the civilians.
Blaming forces for ransacking of houses and causing damages to property of civilians, they said the unnecessary harassment of common people would vitiate the atmosphere of peace further, which should not happen and emphasized that efforts should be made to win the confidence of the people rather than brutalizing them, they added.
They urged upon the forces to ensure safety of civilian rather than damaging their households or injuring them. (KNS)
