Human shield: Army denies reports of clean chit to accused officer

Srinagar, May 15: Army on Monday termed the media reports “speculative” saying that the army Major accused of using a civilian as human shield in Kashmir has been given a clean chit.

A section of media reported that Major Nitin Gogoi from 53 Rashtriya Rifles has been exonerated in human shield case while the Commission of Inquiry has ruled out court marshal against him. The media reports went on to claim that COI while hailing the acumen of the said Army Major termed his decision wise to avoid casualties.

“The Court of Inquiry concerned with the incident wherein a civilian was tied to an Army jeep is still incomplete. Reports in some sections of the media of the Army Major being given a clean chit are speculative,” said Defence spokesman Colonel Rajesh Kalia informed CNS through a text message. (CNS)
