Illegal soil extraction ongoing unabated in Budgam

‘Land mafia active to vandalize the natural karewas’

Budgam, May 18: Illegal extraction of soil, bajri and sand is going on unabated on the karewa hills in Budgam district, despite ban imposed by the administration.
Despite J&K’s Land Revenue Act’s Section 133-A banning any kind of soil excavation for personal gains, the process is going on “unabated” in some areas of central Kashmir’s Budgam district under the nose of the district administration.
“The land mafia is active to vandalize the natural karewas,” the residents told KNS.
Presently, soil, bajri and sand are being excavated within the district headquarters from famous “Mamath Wudder” during odd hours to avoid any official interference.
“A makeshift road from Dardpora Budgam village to Mamath Wudder has been made for vandalizing the karewa. Scores of Tippers are ferrying soil to other places without any fear in a broad day light now,” the residents said. (KNS)
