Six companies Penalized for Violating Labeling Norms in Srinagar

 

Srinagar, May 26: The next time you want to buy the edible oil cans or  the tea-bags make sure that they carry the declaration of MRP (inclusive of all taxes), Net quantity, complete address with e-mail and consumer-care number so that you can make a rational choice while making purchases.

The field executives of Legal Metrology department under the supervision of senior officers conducted market inspection of different markets of Srinagar city including Batamallo, Bohri kadal etc and seized a large quantity of tea-bags and edible oil cans, spices and other item as these products were without the adequate labeling.

Under the Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 2011 every pre-packed product shall carry on the label the above quoted mandatory declarations so that the consumers may take a judicious decision while making purchase. The deficiency in the labeling was on behalf of the companies and the legal notices were sent to them who in turn confessed the lapses and pleaded for the compounding of challan cases.

A penal sum of Rs 1,20,000 was slapped on six companies for the labeling deficiencies. (CNS)
