Train services resume in Kashmir after four days

Srinagar, May 31: Train services were resumed today after remaining suspended for security reasons since May 27 afternoon in the Kashmir valley, where violence erupted and separatists called for strike in protest against the killing of two militants, including Sabzar Bhat, successor of Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) commander Burhan Wani, in an encounter in Tral area of Pulwama district.

All train services resumed this morning in the valley, a Railway official said.He said train services were suspended in the Kashmir valley due to security reasons after receiving a directive from the government, including police,he said.He said all trains between Srinagar-Badgam-Sopore and Baramulla in north Kashmir are running as per schedule.Similarly, train services from Badgam-Srinagar-Anantnag-Qazigund in south Kashmir to Banihal in Jammu region also resumed. Since there was apprehension of violence, all trains were suspended, he said, adding that in the past, railways suffered massive damage totrains, railway stations and lighting system due to violence.
