Srinagar, May 17: Continuing its offensive against interstate/ inter district drug peddlers/smugglers indulging in illegal trade of drugs to different parts of the country, District Police Udhampur today recovered 55 KG 500 gm Poppy Straw at two separate places and registered cases at Police Station Udhampur and Chenani.
Today at about 1630 hours, a Police party of Police Station Udhampur, while frequently checking the vehicles at Jakheni Naka on NHW intercepted one truck bearing registration No. PB11AE 9426 which was on its way from Srinagar towards Jammu. While checking of the said truck, Police party recovered 52 Kg poppy straw from the said vehicle. The accused narcotic smugglers namely Avtar Singh and his associate Baljinder Singh, both residents of Punjab were arrested on the spot and vehicle seized. In this connection, a case FIR No. 210 U/S 8/15 NDPS Act stands registered in Police Station Udhampur and further investigation of the case is going on.
Earlier today at about 1430 hours, a Police Party of P/S Chenani during surprise checking of the vehicles plying on NHW, intercepted one truck bearing registration No. PB12N/6667, which was on its way from Srinagar towards Jammu. During checking of the said truck, Police party recovered 3 kg 500gm Poppy straw from the truck. The accused narcotic smuggler/driver of the truck namely Sukhvinder Singh S/o Darshan Singh R/o Dabhur Roopnagar, Anandpur Sahib, Punjab was arrested on the spot and vehicle seized. In this connection, a case FIR No. 57/2017 U/S 8/15 NDPS Act stands registered in Police Station Chenani and further investigation of the case has been started. (KNS)
