Doda, May 31: Department of Health & Family Welfare Block Ghat in collaboration with National Programme for Prevention and Control of Cancer, Diabetes, CVD and Stroke under the Supervision of Block Medical Officer (BMO) Ghat Dr Ghansham Singh and under the direction of CMO Doda Dr Wajid Ali Najar observed the World Tobacco Day at Block Hqr Ghat in Doda District.
In this connection, a debate competition was organized by the Health Department at GHSS Ghat in Doda to observe the day.
Principal GHSS Ghat Shahida Khan was the Chief Guest on the occasion where as Sr Dental Surgeon Dr Tahir Muneeb Zargar was the Resource Person from Health Department besides Dr Nasir Masood Indrabi, Dr Hasam ud Din, Mashood Latief, Zeeshan Ali Tramboo and Ashok Shan were among others from Health Department Block Ghat who were present on the occasion.
In the debate programme, around seven students drawn from different classes including Hadiyah, Ifra Batool, Ifroz Hussain, Firdous Ahmed, Tarannum Mushtaq, Payara Lal Sharma and Fahd-Bin- Irshad participated in the debate and threw light on this day besides highlight the ill effects of using tobacco products among younger generation which is posing a great threat to human life.
Speaking on the occasion, Resource Person Dr Tahir Muneeb Zargar urged the students fraternity to spread awareness in the society about the bad effects of using tobacco and its products, starting from their respective homes, to make the surroundings a tobacco free zone. Dr Zargar further said that at present smoking and tobacco chewing is singly risk factor or all killer diseases whether cardiac events, stroke, lung cancer, mouth cancer, malignancies of wind pipe, food pipe and stomach and all sorts of vascular disorders and hence its habit should be eradicated from the society. The participants were advised to refrain from tobacco abuse. The lecture also highlighted the ways to get rid of this habit.
Principal Shahida Khan lauded the efforts of Health Department Ghat for conducting this awareness programme in their school and has called for concerted efforts to sensitize people particularly students about the disastrous effects of tobacco consumption.
Sheikh Abdul Hafiz, faculty of the school also spoke on the occasion and aware the participants about the ill effects of this burning issue which is globally effecting the youth and asked them to shun this path which is destroying their life and family as well.
Faizan Ali Tramboo conducted the proceedings of the programme on stage. Later, a pledge was also taken among the entire participant in the programme. (KNS)
