“Islam teaches us to stand against oppression, its part of our political struggle”

Indian maligning all pro-freedom voices, to demean resistance movement: Mirwaiz Qazi Yasir

Islamabad, June 7: Chairman Ummat e Islami and Mirwaiz South Kashmir, Qazi Ahmed Yasir on Wednesday, while extending full support to Hurriyat Conference leaders who are being raided by NIA, said that “India is facing existential crisis, where media is working as offshoot of occupation and army is acting as a force of savages.”

Mirwaiz Qazi Yasir visited the family of 19-year-old Adil Farooq, who was martyred by Indian forces on Tuesday night during protests, in Ganowpora village of South Kashmir’s Shopian district. While speaking to the gathering at his house, Mirwaiz Qazi Yasir said that brutal killing of this tender boy is one of many black spots on India’s so called democracy. “Indian government has unleashed its army only to spill blood of Kashmriris, and the statements of its Army Chief clearly show what is their policy towards Kashmir.”

Mirwaiz Qazi Yasir also extended full support to pro-freedom leaders, Hurriyat Conference and the joint leadership at a time when they are being targeted and people are made to be against them by floating rumors and theories. “It is shame that they are not even allowing a peaceful meeting of leadership, while they have already kept a leader like Syed Ali Geelani under house arrest for years now despite his health conditions. They continue to keep Shabir Shah under house arrests and regularly arrest Yasin Malik.”

He also said that NIA has gone after pro-freedom leaders only to demean the holy resistance movement of Kashmiris against tyranny. “This is Indian conspiracy to divide people from their leaders and continue repression,” he said. “The 2016 uprising and the events since then have proved to India that they have lost Kashmir, so they have started these maligning campaigns against leadership. Not only this, they even say freedom fighters like Abu Dujana and Zakir Musa has multiple girl-friends. They are starting maligning campaigns against everyone who is talking about people’s rights so that Kashmiris will start questioning credibility of each other.”

Taking a dig at Indian news channels, he said that anchors of Indian news channels should first learn to behave as humans and then talk about journalism. “They have become an active part of army and have role in these killings and brutality that happens in Kashmir. One prominent Indian scholar compared Indian army chief with General Dyer but that is not a comparison. General Dyer did a massacre in Punjab and in Kashmir such massacres have been done so many times that it makes even Jallianwala Bagh feel so small in comparison. No one can forget massacres like Bibehara, Hawal, Gaw Kadal, Sopore and many more.”
He added that we can’t leave Islam – our religion aside, while fighting the oppressor. “Our religion teaches us how to fight against oppression and it is part of our political struggle. We should not fall into trap of oppressors and get divided from within due to any differences of paths in our struggle. We all want and aim for same goal, right to self determination, and we should use all means to achieve it, while following teachings of Islam.”
