Bhadarwah, June 30: Four girls were washed away due to incessant rains that sparked flash floods in Bhadarwah region of Chenab Valley in Jammu and Kashmir.
Locals however, rescued three girls while the fourth girl was reportedly washed away in the gushing waters.
Bhadarwah region has been witnessing incessant rainfall from past three days. The heavy rainfall has thrown life out of gear while waterlogging has added to the woes of the people.
Eyewitnesses said that incessant rainfall sparked flash floods at Badrote village of Bhadarwah washing away four girls. “Three girls were rescued while one girl identified as Sheetal Kumari disappeared in the gushing waters. The search and rescue operation is going on to locate her,” said a police official.
Sheetal Kumari was a student at Degree College Bhaderwah.
Reports added that the incident sparked massive anti-government protest while people alleged that despite repeated pleas the administration didn’t bother to construct a bridge over the stream in the village.
