Srinagar, Jun 04: Senior National Conference leader and MLA Kangan Mian Altaf Ahmed has flayed the Irrigation department for ‘failing’ to provide irrigation facilities to the farmers in several villages of Kangan constituency.
In a statement issued to KNS, Mian Altaf said that the irrigation and flood control (I&FC) department has failed to restore the main Baba water canal here that can provide irrigation to the several villages, adding that at the time for planting of paddy saplings in the fields, lack of irrigation facility has put the farmers to suffer due to non availability of proper and assured irrigation.
He said that many villages including Haripora, Manigam, Yarmuqam, Benhama and other areas are facing shortage of water for irrigation adding that the people living in the villages depend mainly on agriculture for their livelihood.
Mian Altaf said that the issue was raised in the last District development Board meeting however nothing substantial has been done in this regard to improve and restore irrigation canals.
He urged the Irrigation department to immediately restore the irrigation canals in the area so that the people don’t face any hardships. (KNS)
