‘Perpetrators who killed policemen will face the law’
Srinagar, Jun 17: A day after the six policemen including a senior cop were killed in Achabal area of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district, the Director General of Police (DGP) Shesh Paul Vaid Saturday said that the perpetrators will be brought to book and they will face the law.
Talking to reporters on the sidelines of the function here at District Police Line (DPL) Srinagar, DGP said, “The perpetrators who killed the six policemen including a senior cop would be brought to book and they will face the law. People will very soon see the results.”
Saying that unfortunate Achabal incident has been committed by Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) led by Bashir Lashkaree, DGP said, “We will track him down and see that justice is done.”
Asked about the disfiguring of bodies of the slain cops, DGP said, “As far my information, the militants came closer to the cops and targeted them.”
Referring to a query about non-bullet proof vehicle of SHO in which he was travelling in, DGP said, “We are taking steps in this regard.”.
Meanwhile, asked about the Arwani encounter, Vaid according to KNS correspondent said, “We had specific information about the presence of militants, we cordoned off the area and later three militants were eliminated.”
He said that unfortunately there was a little law and order incident from the village-side but when the stone pelting was taking place the forces were fired upon by the militants. “The forces had no option to retaliate, thereby resulted in the loss of two civilian lives, which security forces wanted to avoid,” he added.
Asked about the significance of top LeT militant, Junaid Matto’s killing, DGP said, “Junaid’s killing is a great achievement for us and a blow to LeT.”
