Mirwaiz Qazi Yasir injured, hit with pellets on arms
Islamabad, June 16: Chairman of Ummat e Islami and Mirwaiz of South Kashmir, Qazi Ahmed Yasir on Friday said that Indian agencies brutally martyred his father Dr. Qazi Nisar Ahmed at the peak of freedom movement only to create confusion and divide the pro-freedom leadership and resilient Kashmiris.
Mirwaiz Qazi Yasir was speaking during a protest rally led by him from Jamia Masjid Islamabad after Friday prayers, which was attacked by police by firing tear gas shells and pellets in which several civilians were injured, including him. The protest march was part of the week-long programs in memory of Ummat e Islami founder Shaheed Qazi Nisar Ahmed, who was assassinated by unidentified gunmen on 19 June 1994. He reiterated call for shutdown in South Kashmir on 19 June.
Strict restrictions had been imposed to prevent Mirwaiz Qazi Yasir from reaching Jamia Masjid who had gone in to hiding on wednesday, however he succeeded in reaching the Masjid where he addressed a mammoth gathering despite people being stopped from entering the Masjid. The Masjid had pertinently been cordoned by Police and CRPF.
The police resorted to heavy shelling inside the Masjid premises where demonstrators had gathered. When the rally led by Mirwaiz Qazi Yasir reached near lal Chowk area Police fired pellets and Tear smoke shells on the protesters. In the Police actions several civilians, including party members and Mirwaiz Qazi Yasir, received injuries. “We are not going to stop from demanding our right to self determination,” he said. “I’m following my father’s footsteps, who stood against the tyrant oppressors for which he was brutally martyred. Every Kashmiris has understood that the oppression will only be responded with resistance, so we will resist in every form and till last breathe. We will not forget the blood of martyrs.”
