Srinagar, July 24: Militant outfit Hizbul Mujhadeen Monday paid rich tribute to slain militant commander Masood on his 16th death anniversary.
Masood was killed in a gunfight on July 24, 2001.
In a statement to news agency CNS, Hizb spokesperson Salim Hashmi quoted the outfit chief Syed Salahuddin as having said that Masood’s martyrdom “infused a new spirit in the struggle for freedom” in the Valley.
“The blood rendered by commander Masood who was a great asset has infused a new spirit in the freedom movement. The Kashmiri people are steadfast to take their movement to logical conclusion,” he said.
Salahuddin said that Masood was not only a religious but was also a great militant commander. “He sacrificed his precious life for the better future of his nation. The blood drops of Masood produced Burhan and Sabzar like brave militants,” he said.
“Hizb Deputy Chief Saifullah Khalid also paid tribute to Commander Masood. During the conference, the martyrs of Kashmir were remembers and their role was hailed,” the statement reads. (CNS)
