Srinagar, July 19: Land mafia is eyeing on the custodian land that government is supposed to hand over to Youth Service and Sports Department for the development of recreational and sports facility.
The land measuring 29 kanals 18 marlas is situated at Fazul-Haq-Colony Batapora Zakoora area in the outskirts of Srinagar city.
Sources said that District Development Commissioner Srinagar through a formal order vide number DDC/Dev/DyS&S/2015/16 had asked Tehsildar North to identify land for the development of a stadium. The Tehsildar had reported that there is land measuring 29 kanals 18 marlas situated at Fazul-Haq-Colony Batapora Zakoora and accordingly Sports Officer Youth Service and Sports had sought possession of the land from the office of District Development Commissioner Srinagar.
Sources said that though the land has been identified and all formalities have been completed for the development of the recreational and sports facility, but the custodian land has not been handed over to the Youth Service and Sports. Sources added that Land grabbers who are eyeing on this vast chunk of land are mulling to grab it. “If authorities fail to turn this land into a sports stadium, it will most probably be grabbed by land mafia.
