Abid had a fire in his belly, thereby he joined militant ranks
Hajjin, Aug 07 : On the early morning of May 12, 2017, Abid Hamid Mir, 20-year old boy left his home in Hajin, Bandipora to buy bread for morning tea, after a while he came back with the same money without bringing bread, and left the home forever without taking anything along even according to his family he didn’t tell them where he had to go, till Saturday early morning his family received the news of their sons killing in an encounter in Sopore. The family shell shocked.
As soon his body reached his home in Mir Mohallah Hajin of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district on Saturday afternoon, the women weeping in the house lawn beat their chests, youth were in rage chanting slogans, Father had a silent look and mother was seen weeping, dozens of women were seen giving her courage to bear it.
Abid Hamid Mir alias Arhaan a B.Com 1st year student of Degree collage Hawal, Srinagar, who was not interested in any sports activities, had left the family in the May of this year “All of a sudden” he left without taking anything like clothes, food or money” later we came to knew that he had joined LeT,” a pakistani based militant outfit his father said on the sideline of his funeral while talking with this reporter.
Slain Abid is believed to be a first young militant in Bandipora district who joined LeT and was killed soon after 186 days after his joining.
The family said Abid was a brilliant student, he was enrolled at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Shahkoot in Uri and he did his primary schooling in the towns Army Goodwill School, His friend who wished anonymity said that Abid was from childhood like a rebel whose mission was always to fight against injustice, he said on 14 August 2012 he unfurled a Pakistani flag at his institution at Baramulla after when School authorities rusticated him on unfurling the flag in the school.
After passing 12th exams, with 83 percent marks. He wished to be a business man, I insisted him to take Medical Stream, but he refused. He was not interested in taking such streams which would force him tomorrow to apply only for Government Jobs; he loved to opt Commerce so tomorrow he can be able to run his own business. He was against to do government job” Said his uncle” in moist eyes.
The family members said Abid had a strong love with the “Jihad” since his childhood but after the killing of Young militant Burhan Muzaffar Wani, a 21 year old Hizbul Mujahideen commander which nurtured his emotion stronger, even when he heard the Burhan killing he left his home in the wee hours to participate in his funeral” said his uncle who wished anonymity.
The family members said the situation around forced him to join militants otherwise he had no need to join them, he was a distinction holder in 12th and was always passing his examination brilliantly.” His neighbors remember him a decent boy who never resorted misbehavior. Abid was a good religious also who never would miss any “Tajjhud”.
Even many FIR’s were lodged against him due to his staunch support to the freedom struggle” at most of his times when his collages days were at peak he used to be languishing his heels in jail,” The family said.
After Abid left, security agencies raided our home many times. We didn’t know where he was neither he made any direct or indirect contact with us. We were harassed again and again by different security agencies sometimes they would barge our house during dead of the nights. “Even at many times our household valuables were ransacked” Family said.
The friend circle of Abid said “he was zero interested in sports activities and was always sitting all alone on the nearby water canal of his locality, he disliked noise he was a noble soul” but suddenly after killing of Burhan he went a paradigm shift and started offering “Tajjhud” besides praying five times a day”,, we are proud of Abid said his friends with eyes downcast.
His father said his son didn’t make a single call to him on the last moments of his surviving in the encounter. He did what he aspired from long, but I will miss my son forever” said his father Abdul Hamid Mir.
Jawhara Begum was surrounded by many women she was heartbroken; the women around to her at his single story home lawn were trying their best to give her courage. But she could hardly stop from crying. But she was equally happy to see his elder son becoming a martyr, she said that she tried many times to see his son but all in vain I couldn’t locate him, but she says that now his son achieved martyrdom I am praying loudly to God to accept his “shadahat”
When his body reached home, this reporter saw many people passing out after seeing his dead body, draped in a white cloth, women beating their chests. Eyewitness said as many as 8 thousand people attended his funeral.
Abid was an elder son of his parents who belonged to economically well-off family, he is survived by his mother, Jawhara Begum who is a house maker, father Abdul Hamid Mir who has done B. Pharmacy now running his own medical shop in the Hajin town and has a little brother Zakir Hameed who studies in 10th class.
