Srinagar, Aug 07 (KNS): The cancer patients who visit SK Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) for the treatment, Monday alleged that no test or therapy was done in the hospital from past 15 days.
A delegation comprising of patients told KNS that no test or therapy was conducted in the Oncology department at SKIMS thereby resulted in immense hardships to them. “The authorities have put our lives at risk as no test or therapy was done in the hospital from past 15 days. The officials in the department have informed patients that their machines and equipments are lying defunct,” they said.
They said that they visit the institute from far flung areas and the administration is leaving them to lurch at large by no conducting the tests or therapy, which are vital for them.
Patients told KNS that they are being forced to spend hefty amount to conduct the tests or therapy at private clinics. “Due to the carelessness of SKIMS administration, we are being forced to visit the private clinics to conduct the mandatory tests there,” they said.
“We have informed Chief Secretary B B Vyas in this regard who has assured us immediate redressal of our grievances,” they said, adding that the administration must repair the machines immediately so that the patients could feel a sigh of relief.
Director SKIMS, Dr A G Ahanger refuted the allegations, saying that three machines are currently functional in the Oncology deportment. “The patients are making excuses as they always remain in hurry and don’t wait for their turn,” he said. (KNS)
