Jammu Regional Committee, CPI(M)
Jammu, August 20:-Keeping in view the sensitivities of J&K state, it becomes imperative for the political leadership of the country to exhibit maturity and ensure that no such step vitiating the already tense situation in the state is allowed to be raked up.
Addressing the meeting of Regional Committee CPI(M), Jammu, comrade Sham Prasad Keasr, regional secretary cautioned that any attempt to disturb Article 35-A of the Indian Constitution will have disastrous and catastrophic results which is bound to endanger the relationship of the State with Indian Union. RSS-BJP are hell bent to dilute the unique and distinct identity of the state. In fact, it was Bhartiya Jan Sangh which in early 50’s launched agitations to scrap the special status of the state despite the fact that is founder had already accepted incorporation of Article 370 in the India Constitution in the meeting of Constituent Assembly held on October 12, 1949 presided over by none other than the then Home Minister and Incharge States, Sardar Patel, he elaborated. It is pertinent to mention here that the state subject law was finalized in 1932 by the then Maharaja Hari Singh after a vehement demand made in particular by the Dogra Pritinidi Sabha Jammu and Kashmiri Pandits who being educated then opposed the provision of jobs to people from outside the state particularly from Patiala and Lahore to run the administration in the princely state. He said that the conspiracy to remove Article 35 -A is essentially the agenda of communal, divisive and anti democratic forces who want to thrive on uncertainty discard, hatred and continued turmoil.
He emphasised that efforts need to be accelerated to unite the democratic forces including various shades of opinion, political parties, intelligensia, academicians and the civil society to put up a cohesive struggle against the move to dilute distinct identity of the state on the one hand and also make people of Jammu and Ladakh regions aware that its abolition is harmful for the whole state. He also urged the Govt.of India to file a strong counter affidavit in the Apex Court to defend Article 35 -A in the larger national Interest.
