Srinagar, Aug 23: A businessman from Srinagar city Wednesday alleged that despite court directions, Srinagar Municipal Corporation is hell-bent to demolish the pillars and gates of his underground parking slot near his Guest House.
The Guest House owner Nazir Ahmed Mir from Bemina Srinagar said that a particular official from SMC who is hand in glove with a political leader has been harassing him on the one or the other pretext. “I don’t know why they are after me. Given the fact that court has directed SMC to maintain status quo, the Municipality team after getting instructions from a particular official emerged in Bemina and tried to demolish the gate and pillar of the underground parking,” Nazir Ahmed Mir, the victim told news agency CNS.
He said that in 2010, after getting permission from SMC, he started construction of the Guest House. “From 2013, the Municipal officials harassed me repeatedly on the one or the other pretext despite the fact that I complied with court directions and established an underground car parking. The harassment didn’t stop. Finally I approached the High Court that directed SMC to main status quo. A day after I handed over the copy of High Court to SMC officials, a demolishing squad was send to raze the gate and pillars of the car parking,” Mir said adding that it is sheer harassment.
Commissioner SMC Dr Shafqat couldn’t be contacted while Joint Commissioner Syed Qasim declined to comment on the issue.
Chief Enforcement Officer Mudasir Ahmed Banday said that they are only implementing the court orders. “Court has directed both the parties to maintain status quo as it was on August 10, 2017. We are bound to stop him, if he starts fresh construction after August 10. “We can neither demolish anything nor will allow him to go for any further construction,” he said and refuted the allegations that they are acting on the instructions of a political leader.
