Srinagar, August 9: Army on Wednesday claimed that five militants killed in Machil sector of Kupwara district were heavily armed and prepared to carry out prolonged operations.

Brigadier RK Suresh told media at Machil that the five intruders who were gunned on August 7 near Line of Control in Machil sector were heavily armed to the teeth with AK-47 rifles and ammunition.  “Large quantum of ammunition bulk they were carrying was expended on own as troops as well,” he said.

The Brigadier said that besides they were also carrying UBGLs, multiple ammunition of grenades and other war-like stores. “They were prepared to undertake prolonged operations. In the end, they were carrying good quantity of rations, medicines which have a lot of Pakistani markings,” he said, adding that the operation was carried out swiftly without any loss to troops.
