Police destroyes bung cultivation in Central Ganderbal

Srinagar, Aug 26: An elderly Kashmiri Pandit couple has alleged that they were thrashed and ‘illegally’ detained by police for couple of hours on Friday morning.
Pinky Raina and her husband MJ Khabri of Indira Nagar Sonawar area of Srinagar city arrived here in Press Enclave Srinagar and alleged while on way to Shankar Acharaya temple they were first stopped by CRPF personnel and when they resisted a group of policemen dragged them out from their vehicle and locked them up at Police Choki Nehru Park.
“Its our daily routine to pay obeisance at Shankar Acharaya temple located in the foothills of Dalgate. As usual we were on way towards the temple when CRPF personnel stopped us. When we expressed our desire to visit the temple, a group of policemen dragged us out from the vehicle and told us that due to CM visit in the area, they can’t proceed towards the temple. The policemen not only hurled choicest invectives but also thrashed us,” Khabri told news agency CNS.
“We were forcibly taken into police station Nehru Park and detained there for couple of hours,” the Pandit couple said and sought intervention of Inspector General of Police.
They said they will knock at the doors of Ministry of Home Affairs if ‘erring’ policemen are not taken to task.
SP East Mr Dawood said that the couple was not detained illegally but a case stands registered against them for stopping police to perform their duties.
Choki Officer Police Station Nehru Park Imtiyaz Ahmed said that the couple didn’t follow the directions of police. “They were asked to stop for checking but instead of obliging, they entered into an argument and even pushed a policeman towards the vehicle. An FIR vide number 86/2017 under section 353, 341 stands registered against them,” he said. (CNS)
