Pulwama, Tral shut against civilian, militants’ killing

‘Situation remained peaceful’

Srinagar, Aug 10: Shutdown was observed in Tral and Pulwama against the killing of three militants and a civilian in Gulab Bagh village in Tral on Wednesday.
Three militants include Zahid Ahmad Bhat from Nawdal, Tral, Ishaq Ahmed from Batgund, Tral and Muhammad Ashraf Dar from Trich, Pulwama and a civilian Muhammad Younus, aged 16 was killed due to pellets after the encounter.
Shops, business units and schools were shut in Tral and Pulwama were closed today, while traffic was off the roads. Security forces were deployed in both the towns to prevent clashes and protests, police officials said.
The officials said that situation in Pulwama district remained peaceful. “In rest of the valley, situation was normal and no shutdown was observed,” the officials said. 
Earlier, thousands of people participated in the funerals of the militant Ishaq Ahmed and the civilian Younis Sheikh in their respective localities.
Witnesses said that “multiple” funerals were offered for the slain, with people shouting pro-freedom slogans.
Younis, 16, whose result of Class 10 was awaited after he appeared in bi-annual examination, was son of a retired army man, Muhammad Yousuf Sheikh from Nawdal Tral.
As per police, he was killed during clashes at Nawdal after the encounter.
Yousuf sheikh said that he had served in army for 24 years and got retired in 2010.
He said he has “no hope of justice when others victim families did not get in these years.” “I will remain silent and will not seek justice,” Sheikh said.
“My son elder son is physically and mentally challenged and my younger daughter is studying in Class 4,” he said, adding that Younis was his only hope.
“I served the country for 24 years, and even my son was not spared,” he said. (KNS)
