Transporters checked for charging passenger fare

Kupwara, Aug 09: Emphasizing for massive awareness among the people about the road safety measures and traffic rules, road safety awareness programme was held in Machhil area of Kupwara district.
The programme, themed: ‘Your Safety, Secure your Family, Be cautious on Roads’ was held to educate drivers and public about road safety measures.
A medical camp was held at Govt Primary Health Centre Dodhi Machil wherein drivers of commercial vehicles were medically checked.
On the occasion ARTO Kupwara, Mukhtar Ahmad said that in order to educate people about the road safety measures and traffic rules we decided to held this programme in remote area of Kupwara’s Machil.
He said that in future such programmes will be organised in another areas.
“The aim of holding the road safety programme in remote area is to sensitize people about safety measures. Awareness camp for drivers and conductors will be conducted,” he said.

During the camp pamphlets containing road safety rules to be followed by motorists, including avoiding using cell phone during driving, compulsorily wearing helmets, preference to pedestrians crossing the road were distributed.
Moreover the fare being charged by the Tata Sumo operators, as per the notification, issued by ARTO Kupwara as reported by the locals and passengers travelling to Machil from Kupwara were also checked.
Assistant Regional Transport Officer Kupwara in his speech educated the participants about the Road Safety.
He also made drivers aware about Do’s and Don’ts while driving the vehicle. “Such programmes will be conducted throughout the year in the district to make roads of the district safe.” (KNS)
