Srinagar, August 22: At least seven houses suffered heavy damage after massive inferno broke out at near Main Town of Pulwama district in south Kashmir Tuesday.
Locals told GNS that fire broke out from a residential house in congested Dallipora locality of Pulwama today morning and engulfed adjoining houses. In the meanwhile, fire tenders of Fire and Emergency Department rushed to the spot and started firefighting operations. The local volunteers, college students and police also assisted the firefighters to douse the flames.

After hectic efforts of several hours, the fire was brought under control but not before damaging at least seven houses and three shops. The locals accused Fire department of arriving with insufficient water to douse the flames and staged a protest against them. Later the deputy commissioner Pulwama rushed to the spot and gave interim relief to the victim families and also announced one month free ration. They were also provided with tents.
A police official meanwhile said that the cause of the fire is being ascertained and added that there was no loss of life or injury to anyone in the inferno.(GNS)
