Will focus on Shehr-e-Khaas to keep it clean: SMC Commissioner
Srinagar, Aug 08: Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) on Tuesday employed hundreds of workers in a Mega cleanliness drive launched in Nallah mar, Rajouri Kadal, Khanyar, Noor Bagh, Safa Kadal, Gowjawar, Hawal, Zadibal, Soura, 90 feet road, Buchpora, Bye –pass and other allied areas.
According to the statement issued to KNS, the drive, spearheaded by Chief Sanitation Officer (CSO) Muhammad Akbar Sofi, was kicked off extensively in these areas where unattended patches were attended to. “All local sanitation officers and ward officers participated in the drive,” the statement said.
The officials said that besides 300 sanitary workers, the SMC deployed machinery, including water tankers and robots, to clear spots where there were complaints of any garbage. “Grass-cutting machines and disinfectant sprayers were also used on the main stretch connecting the old city with Buchpora,” the SMC statement added.
Several interior areas were also brought under the drive.
Chief Sanitation Officer Sofi asked people to approach the SMC’s helpline in case of any unattended garbage for “a swift response”.
“The SMC will respond quickly in case of any complaint and ensure the citizens do not face inconvenience on account of unhygienic conditions,” said Sofi.
SMC Commissioner, Dr Shafqat Khan, who issued orders for the mega drive, said, “A special focus will be put on the areas of Shehr-e-Khaas to keep it clean”. (KNS)
