Srinagar, Aug 05: An anti-polythene squad of the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), in its ongoing drive, has seized 300 kgs of polythene bags from several parts of Srinagar city.
The SMC imposed a fine of Rs. 6,000 on numerous shopkeepers as the anti-polythene squad inspected areas of Nowpora, Khanyar, Rajbagh and Jehangeer Chowk.
Meanwhile, one shopkeeper, Nazir Ahmad, tried to set ablaze the squad’s vehicle during the inspection in Nowpora. The attempt was foiled.
The anti-polythene squad was led by SMC’s Shakeel Ahmad.
SMC Commissioner Dr. Shafqat Khan, who holds weeks assessment of anti polythene drive, was also apprised of the current drive and the polythene seized. (KNS)
