Pattan, Aug 28: After seeking permission from District Magistrate Baramulla, police on Monday exhumed the body of a Pattan businessman who had allegedly blamed a group of money lenders for forcing him to end his life in his suicide note.
The family of the victim hailing from Buran Pattan in their complaint to police had alleged that a group of people resorting to usury forced their loved one to commit suicide. “Six money lenders barged into our house and demanded huge sums of interest from the victim on the money he had borrowed from them,” the family in his complaint had said and had even handed over a suicide note to the police.
Taking cognizance of the complaint, police arrested 4 money lenders accused of running the business of lending at exorbitant rates of interest and then cheating people by asking them to return huge sums which were disproportionate to the amounts borrowed. Police also seized the shop of one of the absconding accused.
The body of the victim was exhumed in presence of a special team comprising SDM Pattan Sarfaraz Ahmed, Executive Magistrate Faheem Ahmed, Block Medical Officer Dr Manzoor Ahmed, SDPO Pattan Amir Qazi and SHO Pattan.
“The samples collected have been sent to Forensic laboratory. The cause of the death will become clear once we receive the report from the Forensic Lab,” SDPO Pattan told news agency CNS.
Out of the six accused four have already been arrested by police while two are absconding. One of the absconding accused is posted in the Security Wing of Jammu and Kashmir Police. The arrested accused have been identified as Ghulam Ganai of Ganjipora Buran, Nazir Sofi, Rouf Bhat and Mohiuddin Bhat all residents of Buran Pattan. (CNS)
