VC LAWDA attacked

Vehicle severely damaged

Srinagar, Aug 25: While removing the illegal hoardings erected by locals at Rakh e Arth, Bemina on 24th of August, the unruly mob attacked Vice Chairman, LAWDA, Dr Hafeez Masoodi and damaged his official vehicle as well as several other vehicles.
There has been a trend of late to grab the Government land under the pretext of religious, ethnic and sectarian mobocracy. People initially erect hoardings and subsequently usurp the land which is meant for development and allotment in favour of Dal lake dwellers under Rehabilitation and resettlement programme of Prime Ministers Reconstruction Programme (PMRP) now PMDP.
The programme includes creation of infrastructure, development of roads and by lanes, provision of adequate civic amenities such as medical, educational and recreational facilities.
However, on Thursday the situation worsened and five to six youths attacked the Demolition team of LAWDA led by its Vice Chairman when they were coming back after removing the illegal hoardings erected by some unscrupulous elements on Wednesday with the ulterior motive to encroach upon 30 kanals of acquired land which the lake authority is developing as a resettlement colony for Dal dwellers.
An FIR has been registered in police station Bemina and police is expected to book the illegal encroachers and the ring leaders of the Rakh e Arth Area.
Apart from VC LAWDA, SE, Three AEEs, three AEs, six JEs, four drivers and other staff were also manhandled and attacked. (KNS)
