Srinagar, August 30: Residents of Vessu area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district today staged a protest against shortage of drinking water and non-functional public health centre during which they blocked Srinagar-Jammu National Highway.

According to GNS correspondent, the residents of Vessu came out of their houses today and assembled on National Highway. They blocked the vehicular traffic and demanded water supply to their houses. The residents said that they are facing severe drinking water shortage and government is making no efforts in this regard.

The Vessu residents further said that after 13 years, the construction of Public Health Centre was completed but it has not been made functional. They said that in absence of the PHC, the locals are facing severe difficulties in terms of healthcare facilities. The protesting residents shouted slogans against the government and demanded immediate redressel of their grievances.

Meanwhile, senior government officials reached the spot and tried to pacify the protesters. They assured them that their grievances would be redressed and urged them to end their protest.
