2-day seminar on Science and Technology begins at KU

Srinagar, Sept 25: A two-day national-level seminar on ‘National Development through Science and Technology’ started at the University of Kashmir on Monday.
Organised by the Indian Science Congress Association (Srinagar Chapter), the seminar was presided over by KU vice-chancellor Prof Khurshid Iqbal Andrabi while Prof Ashok Kumar Saxena, former general president ISCA was the chief guest.
In his address, Prof Saxena said: “A meaningful academic discourse such as this provides the necessary fillip to undertake year-long scientific activities to young students and researchers who are the primary beneficiaries of such events and interactions.”
He said: “Perhaps India is the only country in the world whose 70 percent population is aged less than 35 years and this provides us an opportunity to sensitise our young generation about the advancements made in various fields so that they become the global leaders of tomorrow.”
In his presidential address, Prof Andrabi maintained that humans need to work in harmony with nature and not against it. “Once we start believing that the best of the inspirations come from nature, we will start getting dividends in our scientific pursuits as the answer to our several dilemmas lies in the nature itself.”
Prof Premendu P. Mathur, general secretary (Scientific Activities, ISCA), Prof Gangadhar, general secretary (membership affairs, ISCA), Dr Vijay Laxmi Saxena (executive member, ISCA) also spoke on the occasion.
Earlier, Convener ISCA (Srinagar Chapter) Prof Ulfat Jan highlighted the aims and objectives of the seminar. The seminar director Prof G. Mustafa Shah summarised various presentations being made during next two days. (CNS)
