Srinagar, Sep 28: Dean, Faculty of Fisheries, SKUAST-Kashmir,Dr. Syed Masood-ul-Hassan Balkhi has been awarded Fellowship of Coldwater Fisheries Society of India (CFSI) for the year 2017at a National Seminaron “Strategies, Innovations and Sustainable Management for enhancing Coldwater Fisheries and aquaculture held at ICAR- Directorate of Coldwater Fisheries (GoI), Bhimtal in collaboration with Zological Society of India and Coldwater Fisheries Society of India.
Dr.Balkhi has been awarded the fellowship for furthering the cause of education in the state of Jammu and Kashmir (in particular related to Coldwater / Hill Fisheries).
Dr.Balkhi is credited for his pivotal role in establishment of Ist Faculty (College) of Fisheries in India (SKUAST-K) with Hill/Coldwater Fisheries, Institution of Bachelors, Masters and Doctoral degree programmes in Fisheries Science at Faculty of Fisheries, Rangil, Ganderbal, besides creating all basic infrastructure for R&D activities in the said College at Rangil, Ganderbal.
The fellowship was conferred to Dr Balkhi on September 22, 2017 at ICAR-DCFRI, Bhimtal, at the hands of PadmashriProf.R.C.Sobti, Vice-Chancellor, BBAU, in presence of a galaxy of intelligentsia including Vice-Chancellors, Professors and functionaries of ICAR (GoI).
Only four CFSI fellowships have been awarded this year in the country from among a large number of applicants. Earlier in June, 2017, Prof.Balkhi was awarded another prestigious fellowship of Inland Fisheries Society of India (FIFSI) in recognition of his contribution for furthering the cause of Education & Research in fisheries science in the State of Jammu & Kashmir.
