Lawyers to resume work tomorrow after Bar president arrives home

Mian Qayoom presides over General Body meeting

Srinagar, Sep 08: Hours after High Court Bar Association President Mian Abdul Qayoom was released by NIA, he presided over the General Body meeting, with the lawyers deciding to resume the work from tomorrow.
The senior lawyer arrived from Delhi today morning after being questioned by NIA for two days, stretching hours.
A lawyer told KNS that Mian Qayoom reached Srinagar today and has been asked to appear again before NIA on September 14. Eight members of Bar had gone along with Mian Qayoom to New Delhi.
The Bar’s general body will meet on Tuesday (Sep 12), two days before Qayoom will fly to Delhi to appear before NIA.
Lawyers across Kashmir valley on Friday had suspended the court work for the consecutive fifth day today to protest against NIA for summoning their president to New Delhi.
“Today, we held a two-hour meeting which was presided over by our Bar Association president Mian Qayoom,” the lawyer told KNS.
The lawyers said that NIA is used as a tool by the Government of India to suppress the voices in Kashmir and also silence those people who raise voice of the victims.
Qayoom was grilled by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for at least seven hourson Wednesday in New Delhi after he was summoned by the investigating agency to its Delhi office for a case registered on May 30 this year. Yesterday, he was questioned for 5 hours.
The NIA has presented Qayoom as a witness in the RC-10/2017/NIA/DLI case. (KNS)
